Nira Radia in Bollywood!

After created a huge national storm with her involvement in the Rs 1.76 lakh crore '2G' scam, Nira Radia is all set to enter Bollywood. Don't jump to conclusions, its not Nira Radia who is going to act in a movie, but drawing inspiration from her involvement a movie is being made on her life and work. Satchit Puranik, who earlier made B-grade film like 'Mr Ya Miss' has been roped in UK-based film production company 'Hiten Group' to direct this film. It is learnt that director of photography Mathew R Blute, who has made a mark in the Hollywood is also roped in to be part of the project.

The production house believes that when facts turn out to be stranger than fiction; making a film on these facts will certainly create interest among the audience. And Hiten Group has also finalized the name for the proposed movie which will be called "2G Radia-tion". A B-grade actress 'Poonam Jhawar' will play the lead role of Nira Radia in the film - this actress is known only for her B-grade photo shoots and films and item numbers.

Film's producer Manoj Nandwana recently even announced that this subject is entirely different from what is being dished out currently in the Bollywood. This subject has all the ingredients that go into making a thrilling and fun-filled movie. The movie will trace life of a young entrepreneur _ Radia _ to the times of making it to the national headlines with her involvement in the scam. The actress Poonam Jhawar, who is believed to resemble Nira Radia during a recent interview also confirmed her involvement in the project.

Broker - story of YSR & KVP?

Nira Radia - this is the name heard maximum number of times in the recent times. She has been in the news for all the wrong reasons and due to her proximity to power circles in Politics and in Business communities alike. She was the one who got Telecom portfolio for A. Raja of the DMK and she is the one who has lobbied for 2G spectrum for 'the Tata' and 'the Ambani' - two of biggest names in the world of business. Basically she played the role of a 'Broker' for people in power and for people who aspire to get power.

Down South in Andhra Pradesh and in the Telugu film industry, R P Patnaik is making film on this character called 'Broker'. R P Patnaik who started his career as a music director has been working on this story for a very long time. His tag line for the movie is that one person needs a job to be done and another looks at this need as an opportunity and between this 'Need' and 'Opportunity' stands the character called 'Broker'. Who mediates, facilitates, fixing, lobbies, brokers to get the work done and make his share from one or either sides in the process. This character called 'Broker' has a unique recognition across the world and has literally existed in every part of life.

The movie 'Broker' stars RP Patnaik himself along with Srihari. It is being said that Srihari plays a political leader while RP Patnaik plays his assitant who brokers various deals for his boss. It is being said that these two characters have been created with utmost care and not to hurt any sentiments.

But people who have been involved closely with the projects said that this is most likely the story of Late Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and his political advisor Dr. KVP Ramachandra Rao. It is widely known fact that while, YSR was ruling the State, it was KVP who was running the show from behind and even grew to the extent of being the shadow chief minister. Ministers, Politicians, MLAs, Bureaucrats, Industrialists and even common people used to look for KVP's mercy to get their job done. Even YSR used to process every act of his through KVP only.

While, this was a widely known fact - former Congress minister Konda Surekha recently called KVP 'a broker', this mention emphasizes the point how critical was the role of KVP during YSR regime. Percentages and shares to YSR and his family were always discussed through KVP.

Coming back to 'Broker' the movie RP Patnaik has certainly raised eyebrows across by making a movie on this subject and it is being said that the movie might run into some kind of political storm once it hits the screens across Andhra Pradesh shortly. Government sources state that the ruling side may not raise any kind of opposition to the movie to take a dig at YSR and his family.

Ranga The Donga - faction story?

After almost every hero worth his name, now its time of Srikanth to join the faction bandwagon! His next movie 'Ranga The Donga' which is all set for release is a story of factionism in which Srikanth played a double role - one as a thief and the other as a faction leader.

While, everyone thought time is over for faction related movies, this one comes promising a new angle to the same old story! Only time can tell if this movie has anything new to offer or not. Srikanth will be seen in a new and different look - though no thief will have such a look. The movie has Vimala Raman and Ramya Krishna playing the role of leading ladies opposite Srikanth.

RGV abuses K. Raghavendra Rao

Ram Gopal Varma who is known to touch upon controversial topics, has created a different kind of controversy by saying that he is better than K. Raghavendra Rao, who is one of the ace directors of Telugu cinema. RGV made these comments during an interview to a private TV new channels in Hyderabad. RGV who was being interviewed about his new film 'Katha Screenplay Darsakatvam Appalaraju' starring comedian Sunil in the lead role made certain comments which were not liked by K. Raghavendra Rao.

RGV, who made a mark in the Indian cinema with his remarkable works both in Telugu cinema and Hindi cinema. RGV even in his latest movie 'Katha Screenplay Darsakatvam Appalaraju' is making a song which is a direct dig at all the directors of Telugu cinema. The song starts with taking a dig at RGV himself and then shifts focus to other directors like: K. Raghavendra Rao who is known to make romantic movies; Puri Jagannath; VV Vinayak; SS Rajamouli etc.... The song almost hits out at every director worth his name in the Telugu cinema industry.

Pavan Kalyan to turn to Direction

Pavan Kalyan, who has been dishing out disaster after disaster with his acting is all set to turn to film direction. But, thankfully he is only going act like a film director in his next movie which is being made based on Christianity and Jesus Christ! The first part of the movie which is being produced in English, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam is already shot in Jerusalem, which is a holy play for Christians.

The film will have a popular heroine playing a prominent role, while it is learnt that four top actors from South Indian cinema are roped in to play important characters. The director and producer are maintaining secrecy on who these top actors are who will be playing these all important roles in the film which is expected to hit screens only towards the end of 2011 - most likely around Christmas next year.

JK Bharavi, Sangeetham Srinivas Rao, Konda Krishnam Raju are the producers of the film. Production assistant Stefano, Chief designer Christina Tinto and three other internationally reputed technicians from Hollywood will be working in the film. Producers of the film are also considering an international release for the film which is also being made in English.

Ronnie Screwvala, who gave many superstars to Indian small and big screens is all set to offer another in Prateik Babbar.

Dhobi Ghat - most awaited film in 2011!

Dhobi Ghat, is the most awaited film in early 2011. The film directed by Kiran Rao has Prateik Babbar and Amir Khan playing key roles. A new lady _ Monica Dogra _ will be introduced to the film industry through this film. This is second off beat film from Amir Khan Productions which earlier produced 'Peepli Live' in 2010, a movie which is India's official entry to Oscar Awards in 2011.

Expectations on 'Dhobi Ghat' are really huge and it is learnt that Amir Khan himself has taken up the responsibility of fine tuning the movie and editing it to ensure the end product is liked by his fans. It is also learnt that Mr. Perfectionist has sidelined his wife and film director Kiran Rao and has taken up 100% responsibility to edit the movie as he desires.

The movie which is all set to hit screens on January 11, is expected to be a trend setters in Indian cinema. After a not so great 2010, Bollywood expects to gave a great start to 2011 with a big success for 'Dhobi Ghat'.

2010 - Year of flops!

2010 has been a year of flops for the Hindi film industry or the Bollywood. Some of the flops movies that we release in this year are:

- Raavan

- Action Replay

- Kites

- Guzaarish

- Tees Maar Khan

While, the movies which have done well over the last one year are:

- 3 idiots

'Ayyare' - an interesting tale on human behaviour!

Rajendra Prasad, who has acted in hundreds of movies and received critical appreciation for portraying certain difficult roles in many films is up for a new challenge. He is playing the lead role in 'Ayyare' being made by debutant director Sagar Chandra. In this movie, Rajendra Prasad plays the role of a watchman who turns baba to cheat people.

The movie also stars Shivaji in another prominent character, while new comer Anisha Singh is the leading lady. B Sudhakar Babu and Rangana Achappa are the producers of the movie who believed in a young director like Sagar Chandra and invested.

The movie mostly completed expect picturisation of two songs. Music to this movie is being given by Sunil Kashyap, while Bhaskar Samalla is the cinematographer.

Rana Daggubati forays into Bollywood

After tasting success with his debut film 'Leader' directed by talented Shekhar Kammula, Rana Daggubati is all set to foray into Bollywood. Rasma Naidu's grandson is all set to play a lead character in Rohan Sippy's 'Dum Maro Dum' which is due to release early 2011. Ran Daggubati will be sharing screen space with none other than Abhishek Bachan and Prateik Babbar, son of Raj Babbar and Smita Patil. Bipasha Basu and Kangana Ranaut are the leading ladies in the movie, while Aditya Pancholi will be playing a negative role in the film.

Dum Maro Dum is extensively shot in Goa and the story line is based on drugs trafficking and drug abuse among youth of India. The movie is being considered as the modern version of 1971 super hit film 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' of Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman, which created history with the song 'Dum Maro Dum' featured on Zeenat Aman. Kangana Ranaut is expected to do Zeenat Aman's role in the modern day version of the movie.

After initial resistance, ever green star Dev Anand saab finally gave the rights of the movie owned by him to Rohan Sippy who is the son of his old friend Ramesh Sippy. But, the a major point of discussion among people of the Hindi film industry is that whether Rohan Sippy be able to do justice to this legendary movie in its modern avatar. Only time can give us the answer to this question.

Ever since announced, the movie has been a high point of speculation and discussion among people associated with the film industry. According to sources, top actresses like Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone before freezing on Bipasha Basu and Kangana Ranaut for the two key roles in the film. While, Bipasha Basu will play the lead lady opposite Rana Daggubati, Kangana is expected to play his sister who is a drug and around whom the movie entirely revolves.

With such top people involved in the project and with speculations being made, the movie is a point of discussion even without any promotion or publicity. Fans are eagerly waiting for the release of this film which will set a different tone in the Indian film industry.

Tees Maar Khan sequel?

It is learnt that Farah Khan is planning to direct a sequel to her new film 'Tees Maar Khan'! While the original film failed to get audience buy in - it would be interesting to see what Farah Khan wants to achieve from the sequel. According to sources Akshay Kumar will play the lead character even in the sequel - which his fans would certainly feel would be a wrong decision. No decision has been taken on who will play the leading lady in the movie.

Sheila Ki Jawani fails to impress!

2010 has been a year of flops for Bollywood. The year which saw many flops (both made with high budgets and low budgets) ended with another flop in the form of ‘Tees Maar Khan’!

The movie directed by ace choreographer Farah Khan failed to win over the audience. He creation ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ too could only help get good opening but will certainly be not able to retain the interest in the movie.

Towards the beginning of the film Tees Maar Khan, its protagonist Tabrez Mirza Khan also known as Tees Maar Khan (Akshay Kumar) talks to his girlfriend Anya (Katrina Kaif), about her acting bug. Anya has just returned from performing her item number Sheila Ki Jawani. It is a stunning, hot and sexy performance, even though the song and the item number have no correlation with the film itself.

Tabrez tells Anya that the acting bug is like a chewing gum -- initially it tastes sweet, but then soon it loses its flavour. That is when you feel like throwing away the chewing gum, he adds. TMK, scripted by Khan's husband Shirish Kunder, is like that tasteless, dull chewing gum that you feel like throwing away as soon as you take the first bite. With each bite, the film tastes worse.

The only high point about the film is its two hours length -- a rare thing for Khan. Her 2007 film Om Shanti Om -- an unapologetic celebration of the popular Hindi cinema of the 1970s -- ran 162 minutes. Main Hoon Na (2004) -- a musical thriller -- was nearly three hours long.

It is a surprise and a relief that TMK is much shorter. But I wonder how much longer TMK could have been under the guidance of Khan and Kunder. Even at two hours, the film feels like one long and tedious exercise in bad humour. Some people laughed during the screening I attended in New York City.

I am a big fan of Khan, of her choreography from Chaiya Chaiya to Broadway's Bombay Dreams, and her hugely entertaining films. But something went terribly wrong with TMK even though it is inspired from Italian master Vittorio De Sica's 1966 comedy After The Fox. Comedies often work in Hindi language films. There has been a history of good, intelligent and yet wild comedies, including Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Chupke Chupke and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro.

In recent years, we have seen a few other clever comedies like 99,Peepli [Live] and the thoroughly delightful Band Baaja Baaraat. But lately more and more Hindi language filmmakers are making slapstick comedies, and in doing so, they make their actors behave moronic, almost mentally and intellectually challenged.

TMK falls in the latter category. Every actor, every character -- the leads, cops, criminals, even the vast supporting cast and extras -- appear to be idiotic caricatures. The premise of the film -- although taken fromAfter The Fox -- the writing, and dialogues emphasise and celebrate stupidity.

Tabrez is a criminal who always manages to escape from the law. Given his track record, the police are convinced that Tabrez is the only person who will attempt to loot a train carrying ancient Indian antiques.

Tabrez is hired for the job by Siamese twins -- Johri brothers (a cop describes them as chipkey huay judwa bhai), who dress in garish shirts and speak the same sentences simultaneously. Tabrez is accompanied by his seemingly incompetent goons Burger, Dollar and Soda. Since stealing the loot from the train would require 300 more people, Tabrez and his goons convince an entire village that they are shooting a film about the Indian freedom movement. As part of the film, the villagers are called upon to loot a train carrying British treasure, to the inspirational sound of Mera Desh Ki Dharti from Upkar.

Also involved in the 'film project' are Tabrez's girlfriend Anya, who will give anything to become a successful actress and movie star Aatish Kapoor (Akshaye Khanna), with a wig, delivering an unbelievably silly performance), who is obsessed with winning an Oscar. Aatish's one regret in life is that his manager had turned away a filmmaker called Danny Doyle. The manager had mistaken the filmmaker for Danny Denzongpa. Aatish is so hopeful he is bound for the Oscar ceremony that he often breaks into Day-Ho accompanied with the background sound of loud drumbeats -- a take on the Oscar-winning song that A R Rahman keeps performing everywhere he travels in the West.

The running joke on the Oscars also includes a ridiculous scene with Anil Kapoor on television jumping and dancing with joy, holding what looks like an Oscar statuette. Tabrez introduces himself to Aatish as Manoj Day Ramlan -- the fair skinned brother of Manoj Night Ramlan, who apparently was born at night and hence is supposed to be dark.

There are other offensive jokes based on characters' skin colours including the early reference to a criminal Ismail Kola -- a dark man who only commits robberies at night. We are told that his skin colour blends into the dark of the night, but the cops are able to catch him when they see his shining white teeth.

Khan and Kunder also work on a thread of insensitive gay jokes. During the so-called film shoot, Anya's make-up is handled by three effeminate men in pink shirts. As if it was funny, Anya refers to them as 'ladies.' Later, for no apparent reason, the filmmakers state that Mukherjee and Banerjee -- the two straight laced but bumbling cops chasing Tabrez -- are gay. And if our gaydars are not fine-tuned, Khan, in a liberal state of mind, has the two exchange rings at the end of the film.

As Tabrez, Akshay Kumar walks with a swagger and is often shot in slow motion. Kumar tries hard, but seems neither cool nor funny. His charm helped him in a film like Singh is Kinng. In TMK, Kumar is handicapped with the weak dialogues. Kaif's character and background story is poorly etched out. She is supposed to act as a ditsy wannabe actress, but in doing so, she delivers her career-worst performance.

What works in TMK are some of the song sequences. Sheila Ki Jawani and the qawalli Wallah Re Wallah show that Khan still has the knack to stage songs -- from choreography to costumes and production design. In Khan's first two films, the songs were an integral part of the narrative. But in TMK, the songs are forced and that is just bad cinema.

Desperate Vishnu Manchu!

Vishnu Manchu, son of famous yesteryear actor Mohan Babu is turning quite desperate to get a hit film under his belt. Vishnu Manchu, who has only one hit film in his over five years career in the form of 'Dhee' is stung by censor board for his desperate attempts. Even 'Dhee' was a hit because of Genelia and Srihari, and critics say Vishnu Manchu had very minimum to do in the movie and the role was so perfect that any hero in his place would have come good!

Vishnu Manchu whose movies one after the other are bombing at the box office is acting in 'Vasthadu Naa Raju' along with Tapsee - who in her debut movie acted along with his younger brother Manchu Manoj Babu in Jhummandi Nadam which was success at the box office. It is believed that Tapsee is being seen as the lady luck by Manchu family and has been drafted into 'Vasthadu Naa Raju' along side Vishnu Manchu who desperately needs a hit movie to survive in the film industry.

The movie which is to be released on January 11, 2011 is facing censor trouble who objected to certain promos of the movie. Though Vishnu Manchu and his team and criticising the censor board being over aggressive in this mater and are stating that the promos are very normal in Telugu film industry and the objections being raised by the board and absurd and will hamper the publicity of the movie.

The movie is being produced by Vishnu Manchu under the banner _ 24 Frames Factory _ a company that is owned by him and is into content development for small screen. The movie is being presented by Mohan Babu and is directed by first time director Hemant who too is hoping for success with this film.

Vishnu Manchu who plays a sportsstar in this movie should probably try to be more sportive with his behaviour and should not hurt the sentiments of the film censor board to avoid any kind of trouble. But, few people who under the industry better are even saying that Vishnu Manchu is doing this to get some free publicity for his movie!

Minimum guarantee hero!

Allari Naresh is known as the minimum guarantee hero! Every movie Allari Naresh makes, producers are expected to make decent profits and not lose any money from the project. This record of Allari Naresh is intact from his first movie 'Allari' to his latest hit 'Kathi Kantarao'. His latest movie is running to full house across Andhra Pradesh and many high budget movies of bigger heroes like Nagarjuna have faltered before Kathi Kantarao. This is a clear testimony to the kind of subjects Allari Naresh selects and his performance which is liked by all sections of the society and people from all age groups.

The movie which stars Kamna Jetmalani too is not a very popular heroine and has acted along side Allari Naresh in one of his earlier movies - Bendu Appa Rao which too was a hit. Most of Allari Naresh's movies run the power of comedy. Though Naresh had demonstrated his acting abilities in other kind of serious movies like Shambo Shiva Shambo and Gamyam - comedy remains his forte and his fans too like him in such roles.

Allari Naresh who is son of famous director-cum-producer EVV Satyanarayana has done few movies with his son in the past. Though he has a famous producer like EVV has his father, Naresh always proved his ability as an actor and bagged roles purely based on his acting prowess. His elder brother Aryan Rajesh too acted in few movies in the past but failed to see the success which Naresh attained.

Another characteristic of Allari Naresh is that though he is quite active and energetic with his roles, he is not seen quite often in public platforms or film programmes. He is considered a humble and soft person who does not like to show off this popularity in public.

Ragada - a flop show!

Akkineni Nagarjuna's new release Ragada is a big flop! This is in addition to the long list of Nagarjuna's movies which have tanked at the box office in the recent years. Nagarjuna's fans who were waiting for a good movie from their favourite hero are highly disappointed with the movie not faring too well. The opening of the movie itself didnt meet the expectations of Nagarjuan's fans.

Ragada, which is produced by D. Sivaprasad Reddy and directed by Veeru Potla stars Anushka and Priyamani as the leading ladies opposite Nagarjuna. The movie also has Charmi dancing to an item number along with Nagarjuna. The modern day Amrish Puri of Telugu cinema, Pradeep Rawat is playing the villains character in the movie.

Music given by Thaman has done reasonably well. Music of Thaman's other movie 'Mirapakaya' of Ravi Teja has done much better than that of Ragada. Title song 'Ragada, Ragada' sung by Baba Sehgal along with Chitra and Rita is foot tapping and will attract the masses immesely. Most other songs though are made to attract the masses, failed to do so!

Nagarjuna's fans are upset on another aspect as well. The movie is not released in any of the major theaters of Hyderabad (other than the multiplexes). A little known 'Venkatesha Theater' is the main cinema hall for the movie. Many critics felt that by selecting this theater as the lead theater, the movie producers and director accepted the movie to be a flop even before it got released.

Critics also felt that Nagarjuna and team had really wasted their time on such a movie by created officials websites and putting all the effort in pre-release publicity for such a film. The official movie site www.nagragada.com was launched during the music launch which happened in the last week of November in Hyderabad. The music launch though was a classy affair with the entire Akkineni family including Nageshwar Rao, Nagarjuna, Sumanth, Sushant, Naga Chaitanya, Akhil standing on the dais at the event held at Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Hyderabad.

Mirapakaya - super hit!

After a average film 'Shambo Shiva Shambo' and a flop 'Anjaneyulu', Ravi Teja who was success in the form of 'Don Srinu' is back in action with his about to release 'Mirapayaka' and his hoping it to be a huge hit! The movie with tag line _ Veedu Chala Hot Guru _ is being produced by Ramesh Pushpala under RR Movie Makers banner. The film is directed by Harish Shankar.

The movie shot is in locations like in Bangkok, United States along with some exotic locations in Europe. The movie stars Richa Gangopadhyay of Leader fame Deeksha Seth of Vedam fame along with Ravi Teja. Prakash Raj and Kota Srinivas Rao play key characters in the movie which will be hitting the screens shortly.

The film which has completed all the formalities recently with last leg of its making and the shooting of the climax scenes was done recently. The venue for all this is the regular hot spot Bangkok and this will include action sequences. Song and dance sequences in the movie which are being liked by all were shot across various countries across Europe. The music for this is being given by S S Thaman.

Bezawada Rowdeelu ... may never take off!

Ram Gopal Varma or RGV is always known to take his audience and fans by surprise. One major factor about RGV is either you love him or hate him... but no one can ignore him. After making a movie on the Ananthapur faction politics, RGV has created a stir by announcing his next project titled as 'Bezawada Rowdeelu', which led to uproar in certain regions of Andhra Pradesh.

While, making this announcement, RGV who had very close ties with Vijayawada (or Bezawada) where he did his Engineering said that he is highly attached to the city of Bezawada and had been observing the unruly behaviour of the rowdies in this region. During his engineering days, RGV used to closely follow the developments in the region and used to form certain thoughts in his mind.

Many who have been following RGV since the start of his career said that, while his debut movie Shiva which was a huge hit was on rowdyism and subsequently made 'Gayam' too was on rowdyism, hence his new venture 'Bezawada Rowdeelu' may not offer anything different. Every one knows that 'Gayam' was the story of group fights between the families of Devineni Nehru and Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga - this movie was a huge hit and rewrote the history books of Telugu cinema.

RGV in his own words said that his debut film 'Shiva' was the outcome of his understanding of the rowdyism in Vijayawada or Bezawada. However, the entire spirit of the film 'Shiva' in comparison with the unruly system in Bezawada, is just a drop in an ocean. Though the word 'Rowdy' is not a native of Bezawada, the terrifying image to the word is done in Bezawada.

He stated that though rowdies are seen even in Hyderabad, but the word 'Rowdy' does not have any significance in the capital city, where as in Bezawada it has tremendous impact. RGV feels that the rowdies of Bezawada are special in their own way. They are third only to the mafia gangs of Mumbai and faction leaders of Rayalaseema.

RGV also said that though I announced the movie now, the script of this movie has been in my mind for the last 30 years ever since I had been a student in the city of Bezawada. He was observing the system ever since his college days and post entering the film industry followed the incidents, persons and the metamorphosis in the system. Currently the script of 'Bezawada Rowdeelu' is almost completed.

RGV, who is now eager to shoot the film at Bezawada and screen film for the audience as soon as possible. But, the feeling is the movie may never take off. Some section of people living in Vijayawada are criticizing RGV's decision to make a film on this subject.

Another interesting twist to the tale is the flop show of 'Rakhta Charitra' - after a decent show of part-1, RGV disappointed his fans with 'Rakhta Charitra -2'!

'Orange' was not in that 'Range"

After two super hits, Ramcharan Teja came before audience with his new movie ‘Orange’. The title was very different and with Bommarillu Bhaskar taking control of the mega phone and hugely popular Genelia being the leading lady in the film, fans expected this movie too break all previous records set by Ramcharan’s earlier movie ‘Maghadheera’. The movie was a family affair for Ramcharan, with his uncle Nagababu producing it.

The movie was released internationally with few hundred prints. The movie received one of the best openings in the history of Telugu cinema. Majority of the movie was shot in Sydney, Australia and few portions of the second half shot in Mumbai. Genelia and Ramcharan both were given a different and very young look in the movie which was expected to be a huge hit among the young audience!

Though the movie failed to meet the expectations of the fans, the music by Harris Jairaj became a rage among movie lovers. His dancing too was an instant hit with the young and old. It was Orange songs which were being hummed by youngsters across Andhra Pradesh. Camera work in the movie too was simply superb and was widely appreciated. Fights were quite stylish and lived up to Ramcharan’s standard.

Supreme Movies, which is a sister concern of Supreme Audio which runs a music company along with music stores in Hyderabad won the international rights for the United States of America. And according to Supreme Movies, the movie received very good opening in the United States, with majority of South Indians living there thronging to the cinema halls screening this movie in various cities like New Jersey and California where there is huge Indian population.

Ram Charan has given good performance in the film and as mentioned earlier, Bhasker etched his character with new looks right from make up, attire, accessories, wardrobe. Ramcharan looked very different and critics opined that he had certainly improved his body language and dialogue modulation in the movie. Though movie did not fare that well among the masses and got restricted to niche crowd of metros, critics appreciated the performances of the lead actors in the movie.

Fans were highly disappointed with the comedy timing, which wa miserable. Though Genelia tried hard to be chirpy and bubbly through out the movie, the act failed to gain marks with the audience. Shazahn Padamsee, who earlier acted in ‘Rocket Singh’ movie made her debut in the Telugu cinema with ‘Orange’ and was looking good in the movie. Comedy by Srinivas Avasarala of Asta Chemma fame was decent along with comedians like Kshore Vennela and the seasoned Brahmanandam in the film.

Indian cinema

Indian cinema is undoubtedly dominated by the regional film industries. With the diverse nature of this nation, regional language films have a tremendous influence on the mindset of Indian population. Let it be Telugu films, Tamil films, Kannada films, Malayalam films, Marati films etc… Though each of the South Indian states had its own film industry, it is being noticed that movies are being made in more Indian languages – Bhojpuri being one of them. These regional language films are so influential that even the ultimate super star of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachan had to act in few of these regional language movies.

It is also a known fact that the super stars emerging from these regional cinemas had a great impact of the mindset of the Indian people. Let it be MG Ramachandran, NT Rama Rao, Raj Kumar, Rajanikant, Chiranjeevi, Mohan Lal all had a great influence not just in their respective states but on the Indian cinema as a whole. It is the popularity of these regional super stars which helped the popularity of the Indian cinema cross seven oceans.

Today, Indian cinema has audience not just in India but also in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, Middle East, Far East …. literally in every part of the world. While the USA and England were always big markets for Indian cinema, more and more countries in the Europe are following Indian cinema. And it is this popularity which is forcing Indian producers organize global premier shows in countries like France, Italy, Germany – the nations which had nothing to do with the Indian cinema in the past.

It is a known fact that Rajanikant is hugely popular and has a great fan following in Far East nation like Japan. Rajanikant’s movies are now being dubbed not just into other Indian languages but international languages like Japanese. It is his popularity which created the biggest hit of 2010 ‘Robo’ – had it been another actor, the movie would have never become such a success. Another important point to be noted here is the fact that the music launch of ‘Robo’ which was produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Films was done in Malaysia in the presence of thousands of people. This highlights the popularity of Indian cinema and Indian film actors globally.

Another global personality produced by Indian cinema is none other than AR Rahman who bagged two Oscars in 2010 for his hugely popular numbers in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and is all set to increase his tally in 2011. Slumdog Millionaire itself bagged quite a few Oscar awards in February 2010. This home grown magician of music is now an international star is one of the most sought after music directors across the world. It is also a known fact that dancing superstar Michael Jackson was keen on doing a show along with AR Rahman. This shows the dominance of Indian cinema on the international arena.

Indian film technicians too are going international and Rasool Pukutty’s success at Oscars 2010 for his great work in Slumdog Millionaire is a testimony to this fact. There are many Directors like Shekhar Kapoor, Manoj Knight Shyamalan who created ripples in the West with their long lasting works. Manoj Shyamalan is also called a wiz kid by many internationally reputed film makers for his variety in film making.

From now on let’s see the kind of impact Indian cinema had on the global scenario and the impact regional cinema had on India as a whole. We will try and capture such movies which created ripples across the markets. We will see the people behind such films and the impact.
