Ronnie Screwvala - golden boy of Indian film industry


Ronnie Screwvala – this is the most frequently heard name in Indian cinema. A Parsi Indian, Ronnie (Rohinton) Screwvala is the CEO and founder chairman of ‘UTV Group” which comprises of UTV Software Communications, UTVi and UTV Motion Pictures. An internationally renowned Ronnie Screwcala, recently partnered with Walt Disney, Fox Searchlight and Sony to launch television channels which are of international repute. UTV Group also partnered with Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment production company to develop content for big screen and small screen.

Ronnie Screwvala, who was born on September 8, 1956 in Mumbai (then Bombay) started his career by launching Indiua’s first organized cable TV network. And in 1996 UTV ventured into film production with Ronnie Screwvala producing his first motion picture _ Dil Ke Jharoke Main _ starring Manisha Koirala in 1997.

Since 2004, UTV has been making content for Indian television and has developed programs for Hungama TV, a kids channel in association with Disney and Time Warner. Ronnie Screwvala to his credit has been in the field of content development for Indian television since 1994. His first two serials ‘Shanti’ and “Lifeline” rewrote history books of Indian television.

Ronnie Screwvala, who is India’s leading film producer with every second movie being produced by UTV Motion Pictures or UTV Spotboy was named in the ‘Esquire’ list of 75 most influential people in the 21st century and was also ranked 78 in 2009 among Time magazine’s most influential people in the world. This is a huge honour!

Even in 2011, Ronnie Screwvala, UTV Motion Pictures, UTV Spotboy are going to produce many blockbuster moviews. Dhobi Ghat which is due to hit screens on January 11 is being produced by UTV Motion Pictures. Ronnie Screwvala, who gave many superstars to Indian small and big screens is all set to offer another in Prateik Babbar.
