Bezawada Rowdeelu ... may never take off!

Ram Gopal Varma or RGV is always known to take his audience and fans by surprise. One major factor about RGV is either you love him or hate him... but no one can ignore him. After making a movie on the Ananthapur faction politics, RGV has created a stir by announcing his next project titled as 'Bezawada Rowdeelu', which led to uproar in certain regions of Andhra Pradesh.

While, making this announcement, RGV who had very close ties with Vijayawada (or Bezawada) where he did his Engineering said that he is highly attached to the city of Bezawada and had been observing the unruly behaviour of the rowdies in this region. During his engineering days, RGV used to closely follow the developments in the region and used to form certain thoughts in his mind.

Many who have been following RGV since the start of his career said that, while his debut movie Shiva which was a huge hit was on rowdyism and subsequently made 'Gayam' too was on rowdyism, hence his new venture 'Bezawada Rowdeelu' may not offer anything different. Every one knows that 'Gayam' was the story of group fights between the families of Devineni Nehru and Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga - this movie was a huge hit and rewrote the history books of Telugu cinema.

RGV in his own words said that his debut film 'Shiva' was the outcome of his understanding of the rowdyism in Vijayawada or Bezawada. However, the entire spirit of the film 'Shiva' in comparison with the unruly system in Bezawada, is just a drop in an ocean. Though the word 'Rowdy' is not a native of Bezawada, the terrifying image to the word is done in Bezawada.

He stated that though rowdies are seen even in Hyderabad, but the word 'Rowdy' does not have any significance in the capital city, where as in Bezawada it has tremendous impact. RGV feels that the rowdies of Bezawada are special in their own way. They are third only to the mafia gangs of Mumbai and faction leaders of Rayalaseema.

RGV also said that though I announced the movie now, the script of this movie has been in my mind for the last 30 years ever since I had been a student in the city of Bezawada. He was observing the system ever since his college days and post entering the film industry followed the incidents, persons and the metamorphosis in the system. Currently the script of 'Bezawada Rowdeelu' is almost completed.

RGV, who is now eager to shoot the film at Bezawada and screen film for the audience as soon as possible. But, the feeling is the movie may never take off. Some section of people living in Vijayawada are criticizing RGV's decision to make a film on this subject.

Another interesting twist to the tale is the flop show of 'Rakhta Charitra' - after a decent show of part-1, RGV disappointed his fans with 'Rakhta Charitra -2'!
